Our original members 33 Kephalonian
seamen,
founded our society on the 27th of May 1999
after toying with the idea for some months which was
first expressed by our fellow seamen Dionysios Marketos,
Fotis Gasparinatos, Loucas Nikiforatos, Aggelos
Benetatos and George Papadatos. Now days our members
enumerate over 500 in Kephalonia, Athens, Pireas and
the rest of Greece, but also in the U.S.A and London-U.K

AIM
The growth and cultivation of friendship and community
among its members, the attempt to improve the current
position of seamen, the upgrade and promotion of their
social status, the recording of the seamen’s daily life
conditions.
MEANS FOR ACHIEVING OUR AIMS
Publication of the bimonthly periodical “I THALASSA”
(THE SEA) printed to over 1000 copies which are posted
to our members, friends and subscribers and also to
central maritime unions, kin societies and foundations.

Printed inside one can find not only the views and self
examination of mariners, but also articles views and
collaborations from fellow seamen, friends of the
society, writers, men of letters, journalists,
philologists and others, concerning a variety of issues.
PREREQUISITES FOR REGISTRATION
Eligible for members of the society are
all the Kephallonian mariners and seamen who are
residents of Kephallonia in active duty or retired,
regardless of their rank or speciallity.
Anyone who whishes to subscribe to our newspaper can do
so.
